Position: Commodity Merchant

Office Location: North Powder, OR

Travel: Limited travel will be required.

Experience/Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or Business-related field is preferred. 1-3 years of experience in commodity analyst or procurement roles preferred. 

This position is responsible for coordinating all the logistical information flow and communication between internal and external parties related to commodity purchases, as well as training with the Risk Management Director and Senior Risk Manager on futures trading. Duties include the following:

  • Enter and maintain all grain procurement contracts in a central database as received from the Risk Manager and Director.
  • Responsible for all Purchasing Contracts execution, down payments, and maintenance.
  • Complete grain position reporting and ration pricing projections on a regular basis.
  • Manage, coordinate, and communicate shipping logistics between commodity suppliers, feedyard personnel, and trucking dispatch.
  • Coordinate shipping schedules to optimize feedyard activities.
  • Direct communication with feedyards and commodity suppliers.
  • Weekend and evening logistical communications when required.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all commodity suppliers, feedyard managers, risk managers, trucking companies and other internal or external partners. 
  • Build, maintain, and analyze various cattle and grain related positions reports.
  • Learn trading strategies and techniques from Risk Manager and Director.
  • Cross train on various Cattle Procurement and Risk Management Positions.

The Right Candidate will have :

  • Familiarity with commodity markets, particularly cattle and grains
  • Basic accounting knowledge
  • Delivering and receiving information clearly and concisely
  • Personable with good customer service skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Well organized with a high attention to detail
  • Experience with coordination and communication of multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, etc.)
